Introduction
This module both solves SuDoku (Su Doku) puzzles and also generates them for you to solve. It also allows you to enter your own starting point (e.g. taken from a newspaper or magazine) so you can let the module solve those for you.
If you've come to this page and just want to know how to play skip down to the How to Play section below.
How to Install
Install the module just like any other DNN module.
Add the PSof.SuDoku module to the page you want. Adjust the Module title to be what you want. You should then see something like:-

and that's about all there is to it.
Customization
DotNetNuke Localization can be used to alter all strings presented to the end-user. Color and text size are controlled via css from module.cs.
In response to a FAQ request to be able to remove certain buttons there is now some extra customization possible. Blanking any button text in the App_LocalResources/SuDokuView.ascx.resx will hide the button. In addition, if the Solve Puzzle button is hidden then the Solution is also hidden.
Cost
Only $4.99 available at Snowcovered.
How to Play
Note: These instructions are to help you use this module - they are not a description of the techniques people use to solve SuDoku problems in general.
When the module is first displayed you will see a puzzle has already been generated and is ready to be solved (see example above). Simply fill in the empty cells with the digits (1-9) you think solve the problem. At any time you can click the Hint button and the will be told how you are getting on e.g.
or
or
(or best of all
telling you the puzzle is solved).
To generate a new puzzle (at any time) click the New Puzzle button.
To generate an empty puzzle (e.g. when you want to enter a puzzle from a newspaper or magazine) click the Empty Puzzle button. Now fill in the digits from the newspaper or magazine and finally click the Lock Puzzle button (so you can easily see the original puzzle (green digits) as you try to solve it. You will not be able to lock a puzzle unless there is one unique solution (so this tends to spot any mistyped digits as you entered the puzzle).
If you ever want to see the the solution click the Solve Puzzle button. You will be told if there are no solutions or multiple ones.
Note: When you use the New Puzzle or Solve Puzzle buttons you are normally shown a difficulty rating e.g. 0.11.50 or 2.20.24. In general most people will find the puzzles with larger numbers trickier than those with smaller numbers - but it does depend on which techniques you use to solve SuDoku puzzles).
